A strong, diverse Law firm with an enviable history

At Lows we trace our roots back to 1894 when Thomas Peace Low set up in business in Kirkwall.  Over the years we have grown and are one of the largest and most diverse legal practices in the north of Scotland.  Our modern offices are located in the centre of Kirkwall opposite the historic St Magnus Cathedral.  You can use our webcam to get a “bird’s eye view” from our offices! On Christmas Day and New Year's Day you may even see the renowned Kirkwall "Ba" game!

A broad team of expert staff

There are currently 7 Solicitors in the practice and, in addition, we have a Property Manager and Specialist Tax Adviser.  Our professional staff are backed by a team of paralegal and clerical support staff.

Service is at the core of all our work

We strive to offer the fullest possible service to individual and business clients alike and we all live and are active in the wider Orkney community.  We very much believe that our clients prefer a personal service where their Solicitor is available locally.  We also like to get out and about to see our clients and are happy to arrange home visits including visits to the north and south isles.

Lows are guided by strong ethical code of conduct

All of our Solicitors have undergone extensive training and are members of and are regulated by the Law Society of Scotland.  We are guided by a strong ethical code of conduct, are an independent business and have no external shareholders or controlling interests to answer to.

A dedicated, knowledgeable team

The work our Solicitors carry out is as varied as the needs of the community we serve but as you will see in the website we have practice teams who focus on particular areas of work.  Clients benefit from knowing that their work will be handled by a dedicated knowledgeable Solicitor with appropriate support and back-up.

We invest in our Skills

We undergo regular ongoing professional development and training and a number of our Solicitors have been involved involved in delivering training and seminars both in Orkney and at national level.
